Women’s Volleyball participate in the Osprey Classic
Sept. 12, 2009 – Pomona, NJ - The Penn State Abington women’s volleyball team participated in the Osprey Classic in Pomona, NJ. They fell to 0-6 after losing to Franklin & Marshall, Gwynedd Mercy and Richard Stockton College.
In their first match they faced Franklin & Marshall and lost in 3 straight sets, 3-25, 4-25 and 10-25. Penn State Abington had a hard time getting things going as they were only able to register 3 kills for the match as well as 3 service aces. Franklin & Marshall was a tough team that compiled a .593 attack percentage to go along with their 30 service aces.
In the second match Penn State Abington lost to Gwynedd Mercy in all three sets, 5-25, 14-25 and 4-25. Freshman Samantha Hamlin (Philadelphia, PA / St. Hubert’s) had an impressive game. Hamlin had a .833 attack percentage with 5 kills on 6 total attacks, 2 service aces and 4 defensive digs for the match. Gwynedd-Mercy played consistent and had an impressive 27 service aces.
In the final match of the day Penn State Abington faced the host team, Richard Stockton College. They lost in three sets, 7-25, 3-25 and 6-26. For Penn State Abington junior Christina Fuentes (Philadelphia, PA / Lincoln) registered 5 kills on the match while sophomore Krysten Boyd (Philadelphia, PA / Lincoln) had 6 assists and 4 defensive digs. Richard Stockton College had an extraordinary .500 attack percentage for the match.
The Women’s Volleyball team will be traveling to Kueka Park, NY on Saturday, September 19th for a tri-match against two North Eastern Athletic Conference teams, Morrisville State College and Keuka College. The action is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
