Penn State Abington opened their season with two tough losses
September 5, 2009 – Abington, PA - The Penn State Abington women’s volleyball team opened their season at home on Saturday afternoon against Shenandoah University, where they lost in 3 sets (5-25, 7-25, 4-25)
First year head coach Kevin Larkin was optimistic about the play for Penn State Abington. “This is our first chance of playing in a match since we started practicing. The girls have to get used to playing with each other and communicating on the floor. There is room for improvement and the best thing is that this team is able and willing to work hard to get the job done.”
Sophomore Krysten Boyd (Philadelphia, PA / Lincoln) recorded her first kill as a Nittany Lion while junior Christina Fuentes (Philadelphia, PA / Lincoln) had her first service ace.
In their second match of the day Penn State Abington faced a former rival in Penn State Brandywine, where they lost 0-3. Freshman Samantha Hamlin (Philadelphia, PA / St. Hubert’s) led the way with 4 kills.
The Penn State Abington women’s volleyball team is back in action on Wednesday, September 9th when they host Rosemont College at 6:00 p.m.
