Penn State Abington Women's Volleyball 2011 Preview

 

Abington, PA - The Penn State Abington women’s volleyball team is ready to improve on their 6-16 season in 2010, under third year head coach Kevin Larkin.  The Nittany Lions are returning two NEAC All-Conference players in juniors Johangelie Thomas (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Kensington) and Jenny Abraham (Philadelphia, PA / Central). 

Senior setter Krysten Boyd (Philadelphia, PA / Abraham Lincoln) and junior setter Maria Narodetsky (Philadelphia, PA / George Washington) return to help lead the offense.  In 2010, they combined for a 196 assists; a 1.41 and 1.46 assists per set average respectively.  Boyd was also third on the team with 36 kills.  Newcomers Kate Schalck (Warminster, PA / William Tennent) and Rachel Scornaienchi (Philadelphia, PA / Archbishop Ryan) are expected to make immediate impacts at both the middle and outside positions.

Penn State Abington opens their season at home on Thursday, September 01, 2011 against Rosemont College at 7:00 p.m.  The Nittany Lions open up NEAC conference play on Saturday, September 17, 2011 when they travel to Utica, NY for the NEAC North Crossover Tournament.
