David Sheaffer (Men's and Women's Tennis Coach)
David Sheaffer is entering his third year as the head men's tennis coach and his fourth season as the head coach for the women's tennis team.
In his third year as the head women’s tennis coach he has compiled a 13-27 overall record. Last season, they finished 3rd overall at the NEAC Championships with five selected to the NEAC All-Conference teams. The women were also selected as the recipients of the 2010-2011 NEAC Female Team Sportsmanship Award.
In his second year as the head men's tennis coach he has compiled a 10-14 overall record. Last year, his team finished 4th overall at the NEAC Champiohships with six selected to the NEAC All-Conference teams.
Sheaffer comes to Penn State Abington with a wealth of knowledge of the game of tennis. He has been a certified professional with the Professional Tennis Registry (largest global tennis teachers organizattion) for 10 years, teaching in places like the Philadelphia Area Tennis District, Gold Cup Program and Fort Washington Swim and Tennis Club.
Sheaffer coached the Upper Dublin High School Cardinals to league championships for five seasons. The girl’s varsity team captured the SOL Freedom Division Championship in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the boy’s varsity team captured the SOL Freedom Division Championship in 2004.
David was captain of the tennis team at Messiah College, a NCAA division III program which competes in the Middle Atlantic States Conference (MAC). While at Messiah he was a member of the MAC Championship team in 1995.
He graduated from Messiah College with a degree in Political Science and holds a Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management from Eastern University. He currently resides in Willow Grove, PA with his wife Erika and their two children Rebekah age seven and Timothy age four.
