Women’s Tennis open season with win over Rosemont College
September 1, 2011 – Abington, PA - The Penn State Abington women’s tennis team hosted Rosemont College today in their home opener. The Nittany Lions took control early wining all three doubles matches as they eased to an 8-1 victory.
In doubles play, the duo of senior Stephanie Mockus (Richboro, PA / Council Rock South) and junior Jenny Abraham (Philadelphia, PA / Central) defeated Rosemont’s Kuchma and Coad 8-2, in the first flight. The second flight saw senior Mary Bridget Worozbyt (Dunmore, PA / Dunmore) and junior Lauren Hetzel (Hatboro, PA / Upper Moreland) defeat Rosemont’s duo of Coad and Edwards 8-1. The third flight was forfeited by Rosemont giving the win to Penn State Abington’s pair of junior Lori Phillips (Philadelphia, PA / Central) and freshman Hillary Chiu (Philadelphia, PA / Northeast).
In singles play, Penn State Abington got wins in the 2nd flight when Abraham defeated the Ravens’ Karis Koad 6-2, 6-2. The third flight saw Abington’s Worozbyt beat Rosemont’s Kayla Koad 6-0, 6-4 and in the 4th flight Phillips defeated Rosemont’s Edwards by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The 5th and 6th flights were forfeited by Rosemont giving the wins to Hetzel and Chiu respectively.
The women return to action on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 when they travel to Langhorne, PA for a non-conference match against Philadelphia Biblical University. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
