On March 31 members of the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team held a Birthday party for the girls in the Northern Home for Children Partial Hospitalization program. The evening consisted of pizza, cupcakes, t-shirt making and treats and fun for the girls in the program. Many of these girls may never have a real birthday party.

The girls After-School Partial Hospitalization Program serves 15 girls between the ages of 8-14 years old, which is a drastically underserved population within the Philadelphia mental healthcare system. The program is the only one of its kind in the city and provides the girls with a safe and healthy place to go after school every day during the school year and during the day in the summer.

They receive homework help and tutoring, a hot dinner, and therapeutic services. They have opportunities for recreational activities, field trips, and rewards. This program focuses on improving social skills, self-esteem, respect for authority, coping skills, and countless other emotional and behavioral problems that girls face, especially at this vulnerable age.
