Keith Brandon, Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Keith Brandon will be entering his third season at the helm of the Penn State Abington men’s lacrosse program. Brandon was named the first-ever head men’s lacrosse coach in the spring of 2008 and the program began to compete on the varsity level in the spring of 2009. Brandon developed and guided the lacrosse program’s transition from NCAA exploratory to their current provisional status. In his two years as head coach he has posted a 1-25 overall record, which included, which included 16 away games and 8 home games.
Penn State Abington is now a NCAA Division III member and member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), based in Gansevort, NY. Penn State Abington is now eligible to extend its post season opportunities through participation in the NEAC conference championships as well as the ECAC Championships, available to teams in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the country.
A native of Hempstead, N.Y. (Long Island), Brandon attended Hobart College and was a two- sport athlete in football and lacrosse. Prior to Hobart College, Brandon attended Hempstead High School and then moved onto Northfield Mount Hermon Prep School (Northfield, MA) to complete a postgraduate year. While at NMH, Brandon received the honors Boston All-Globe & Gazette All-star during the 1996 football season. In the spring of 1997, he became captain of the lacrosse team; and finished the season First-team NESSLA All-New England and All-Northern New League All-star honors. Brandon was selected to play in the 1997 NESSLA East-West All-star game.
At Hobart, Brandon was named both captain and All-American in football and played defense for the Statesman lacrosse team. Brandon became a USAFootball.com All-American, 3-time All-ECAC and All-UCAA selection. He was the 1998 & 1999 Bill Middleton Memorial Award (Most Valuable Player) recipient and the 2000 Harter Family Award (“He came to play and he came to win.”) recipient.
Upon graduation, Brandon accepted an assistantship at St. Lawrence University in football and lacrosse. During his time at St. Lawrence, the Saints’ lacrosse teams were ranked #16 in the nation and had back-to-back twelve win seasons. In the 2002 season, the Saints’ claimed the ECAC Championship. He later received a Master’s degree in Education from St. Lawrence University in 2004.
Prior to Penn State Abington, Brandon had been the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Swarthmore College for two seasons, focusing on team defense, face-offs, recruiting and scouting. Brandon has also served as a coach for summer camps in NY, PA, and NC.
He currently works full-time as a teacher for a nonprofit organization located in Center City, Philadelphia that provides alternative day treatment to adjudicated males ages 13-18. Brandon currently resides in Philadelphia, PA along with his wife and three children.
James Delaney ’09, Assistant Coach
James Delaney, a graduate of Penn State University-Abington served as captain of our inaugural team last season and lead on defense. Delaney is no stranger to the local area as he is a graduate of LaSalle College High School and former member of the Abington Lacrosse Club (ALC).
Delaney was also the recipient of the 2009 Fred Striet Award. The Fred Striet Memorial Award was established in 1993 to honor Fred Striet, a Penn State Ogontz varsity baseball player. Fredpitched the only perfect game in Penn State Ogontz baseball history. Established by his parents, the Fred Striet Memorial is presented to a student athlete who demonstrates “leadership and character, pride in academics, and growth and perfection through sport.”
Delaney will be working with the defense, the goalies, and running the box on game days. He will also assist in monitoring our players’ academic progress and strength & conditioning. His experience as a student-athlete and one of the 2009 pioneers of the Penn State Abington Lacrosse program he will serve our student-athletes well.
