2011 Men’s Lacrosse Season Preview
The Penn State Abington men’s lacrosse team is ready to begin their third season as they are looking to improve on a 0-13 season in 2010, under third year head coach Keith Brandon. The Nittany Lions will look to replace their second team All-Conference player in John Barrett. This year’s team is a very young Nittany Lion squad with only 2 juniors, 6 sophomores and 11 freshmen on the roster that will gain valuable experience as the season progresses.
Sophomores Pat Gillespie (Philadelphia, PA/ Father Judge), Chris Bracht (Churchville, PA/ Council Rock South) and Andrew Hannigan (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop Ryan) are the leading goal scorers returning to the Nittany Lions this year. All three players scored 3 goals last season while playing in all 13 games. Sophomore Ryan Mawhinney (Langhorne, PA/ Neshaminy) returns to lead the defense after starting in 12 games a season ago.
Penn State Abington opens their season on February 19, 2011 when they travel to Thiel College, in Greenville PA. The Nittany Lions first home game is February 26, 2011 when they host Mt. St. Mary’s College at the Spark at the Upper Dublin Sports Park. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
