Nittany Lions competed in ECAC Division III South Baseball Championships

May 21, 2011 – Aston, PA – The Penn State Abington baseball team played La Roche College today in the first game of the 2011 ECAC Division III South Baseball Championships.    The Nittany Lions lost to the Redhawks 9-1 ending their season 20-21 overall.  

Penn State Abington was able to take a quick 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.  Sophomore Dustin Kology (Philadelphia, PA / Father Judge) got on base when he hit a single and then stole second and third.   Sophomore Michael Corrigan (Warminster, PA / William Tennent) was hit by a pitch scoring Kology, the Nittany Lions only run of the game.

The Redhawks were able to score three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead.  They then scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth and 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead.

La Roche College scored a run in the 6th inning for an 8-1 lead and then a run in the 8th inning for the 9-1 win. 

Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was Kology who went 2-for-4 and had 1 run.

On the mound for Penn State Abington was freshman Matt McAllister (Warminster, PA / Archbishop Wood) who pitched 5 innings allowing 9 hits and 7 runs.  Freshman Anthony DiVincenzo (Philadelphia, PA / GAMP) pitched 3 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs.

The Penn State Abington baseball team ended their season 20-21 overall and 12-2 in the NEAC.  The Nittany Lions finished their regular season, in the NEAC, tied for first place with SUNY-IT and were the runner-ups in the NEAC West Baseball Championship Tournament.
