Jim took pride in coaching men's soccer, wrestling and swimming. During the 1970-1980's, Jim's soccer teams won 16 conference championships in 18 years. His co-ed swimming teams (often with 25+ members) won numerous conference and individual championships at University Park's Natatorium. Jim left a lasting impression on his athletes. To this day, his former athletes (now alumni) remember Jim for his knowledge, his discipline and his sense of humor.

Jim was an accomplished author. His 1983 book "Complete Book of Drills for Winning Soccer" remains popular today. All four of Jim's children, Joe, Sara, Eve and Jamie received Penn State degrees. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara.
