BA in Art Sculpture

The sculpture area at Penn State Abington provides an intimate community that is fully dedicated to eliciting the artistic voice of the individual.

This concentration emphasizes competencies in art history, criticism, aesthetics, and traditional and contemporary approaches to making sculpture. Traditional studies include classes on the figure as well as investigations of a variety of sculptural materials and techniques. Additionally, our students explore interdisciplinary projects extending the boundaries of sculpture to installation, media arts, collaboration, and performance.

Students have many resources available for developing a broad base of experiences to inform their work. Field trips to Philadelphia, New York, and Washington, DC, support contemporary views of artists working today. International studies through art department courses in Spain and Italy help to broaden students’ perspectives and develop mentoring relationships with art faculty. Visiting artists, critiques, workshops, and exhibition opportunities on campus and at the Abington Art Center all support students’ preparedness for professional life as an artist.

The faculty is comprised of active artists with national exhibition records who are committed to both teaching and learning. Imparting intellectual curiosity, conceptual independence, and technical competencies are priorities of the faculty.
