Robotics in Italy

The Robotics in Italy course will be offered by Penn State Abington during the spring 2013 semester. This 1-credit course is designed for Abington engineering and IST majors and will be taken concurrently with other  robotics coursework.  The objective of the course is to explore robotics technology and culture in an international setting. A trip to Rome, Italy will take place over spring break.

The travel will take place in Rome, Italy in association with Roma Tre University. Students in this course will be exposed to international faculty with robotics expertise, provided an opportunity to engage in robotics topics with international students, and be able to visit university robotics laboratories, international companies, and organizations which incorporate robotics.  Cultural sites including those related to robotics and engineering design, such as the Leonardo da Vinci inventions exhibit, will be included.

See intinerary.

This international course will enhance and supplement select, 3-credit courses in Information Sciences and Technology (IST) and Engineering  which include topics in robotics. These courses include CMPSC 201(Sp13), EE 210(Sp13), CMPEN 275(Fa12), IST 402(Sp12), IST 110H(Fa12). Engineering and IST students with no prior robotics experience may also participate in the course and these students will be required to complete 8 hours of robotics coursework prior to the trip.  This robotics work will be completed online and during scheduled common break meetings prior to the trip.  Some introductory experience in computer science or programming is required.
