Examine American culture - past and present.

Program combines history, literature, anthropology, folklore, and the arts to examine American society.

Classes explore American culture from multiple perspectives, analyzing high and popular culture, national and regional issues, and mainstream and marginal voices.

Abington is located in a region abundant in cultural resources:

  • Internship opportunities at historical sites, museums, local history organizations, radio and television stations, chambers of commerce, political campaign offices, law firms, and area businesses;
  • Penn State Abington students have gained real-world experience with organizations such as the University of Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Atwater Kent Museum, and NBC-TV.

Develop speaking, writing, and analytic abilities necessary for success in business, education, law, museum/archive work, journalism, social services, and foreign/domestic government services. Some graduates continue their education in graduate or professional schools.
