January 2, 2006: AGRA ­- FATEHPUR SIKRI ­ JAIPUR (237 KMS; +/- 6 HRS)

This morning after breakfast, we will travel to the “pink city” of Jaipur.

While en route, visit Fatehpur Sikri . Fatehpur Sikri - 36 kms from Agra and built by Emperor Akbar in 1571 and abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water.

See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid , Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other Palaces.

Proceed further to Jaipur…Upon arrival at Jaipur, check into your hotel.

Dinner and O/N at Jaipur.

January 3, 2006 : JAIPUR

After breakfast we will visit the Amber Fort , followed by a city tour in the afternoon.

Amber Fort - Located up on the Araval hills surrounding Jaipur, the Amber Fort, sprawls along the Maotha Lake . With massive and complex gateways, courts, stairways and pillared pavilions and palaces, the Amber Fort is a truly awe-inspiring structure. Amber is the erstwhile capital of the Jaipur State and is just a twenty-minute drive from the walled city of Jaipur . The fort is a classic example of the fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture .

Adorning the structure is the magnificent pillared hall of the Diwan - i -Am, and the two-tiered painted gateway Ganesh Pol. While the Palace of Mirrors , Sheesh Mahal (Chamber of Mirrors) with walls inlaid with exquisite mirrors, it is sure to take your breathe away. The reflection of the fort in the Maotha Lake is truly spectacular. You can approach this fort by an elephant ride up to the fort!

Later we will visit the Maharaja's City palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar. A delightful blend of Mughal and traditional Rajasthani architecture. Hawa Mahal (1799). ­ The ornamental façade of this “ Palace of Winds ” is a landmark in Jaipur. Its five-storey structure of pink sandstone encrusted with fine trellis- work and balconies has 953 niches and windows.

Jantar Mantar - This is the largest and best preserved of the five Observatories built by Jai Singh II.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
