Introduction to UNIX
CSE 6289-001 (2.1 CEUs)
Fundamentals of the UNIX operating system. Create, edit, and manipulate files, be able to navigate through the directory structure, and use on-line documentation. Students will also learn the vi editor, UNIX shell basics and scripting, built-in communications facilities, and some common UNIX utilities. Additonal topics: file security, process management, and essential UNIX file system structures.
UNIX Shell
CSE 6684-001 (2.1 CEUs)
Students will develop Korn shell scripts covering various topics including control loops, regular expressions, and related shell programming utilities. They also will acquire an understanding of system administration shell scripts.
PREREQUISITES: Introduction to UNIX
UNIX System Administration
CSE 6403-001 (2.4 CEUs)
A review of some UNIX basics including Bourne shell, user level commands and UNIX filters. This course will cover the essential tasks of a UNIX system administrator, such as user account maintenance, system start-up and shutdown, installation of hardware, backup and restores, system logs. The form and content of UNIX configuration files will be presented and their use explained. Crucial concepts of root account privileges, process control, kernel rebuilding and file system maintenance will be examined.
